I know you are celebrating Bastille Day, but here is a show from the Takarazuka theater based on the manga "Rose of Versailles" about Marie Antoinette-

Actually, I think that might be Felzen. (BTW, that's an actress. All of the Takarazuka performers are females.) He looks too masculine to be Lady Oscar. But they've done a funny parody of "Rose of Versailles" on an episode of "Hamtaro" where a character named Marie takes her sick hamster to the vet, and it turns out the doctor is Lady Oscar, and her assistant is Andre! Not only that, she gives long-winded speeches with rose petals floating around and a cathederal background. Hilarious stuff.

I know there is supposed to be a movie that'll be released about Marie Antoinette with Kirsten Dunst in the starring role. I'm thinking it'll be more about how she wanted to be a commoner instead of living as an aristocrat while the rest of her subjects live in poverty...there's an essay on it in Fodor's Paris.

Ha, that's ok. I think it might be from the manga-ka behind "Swan"...which is also very good. However, "Rose of Versailles" has never been released here in either manga or anime...but it has overseas and there was a French TV movie made of it in the late '70s.

I think as I mentioned before, there's a new film being released about Marie Antoinette. And from the essay, she really didn't want to be born into privellage. She would go to her weekend house where she'd live like a commoner, and perform in plays there where she was cast as a maid or peasant. So really, there's actually a different meaning behind "Let them eat cake"-Let the poor have privellage.

Hmm yeah...there was the "country"mock up at Versailles too though memoires of people who went there said it was her playing at what she thought was being a "poor country girl" but which was a highly romanticised view and nothing like it actually was for the people who lived like that.
Oh well - I guess we can never know for sure.
I'll be mad if they have Robespierre in this film though and portray him as the wrong "blood-thirsty" man he is often shown as. *grr* *smile*Ok that's my moan over! lol
One subject never to get me started on...lol...I can talk for hours on it!
